Annual River Trail Bike Ride

Truly a great day for base ball. The Quarrymen adjusted their hitting to the gaps between the trees to make the game a close one.

The Historic Methodist Campground, which has been at this site since 1865, hosted as many as seven Base Ball games a day in its heyday. The Quarrymen scored 6 late aces to finish their 9 inning match against the Chicago Salmon tied 20-20. Boss Lady and others supplied some scrumptious food after the match at the historic Methodist Campground in Des Plaines, IL.

Chicago Salmon Vintage Base Ball Club

Once again the Chicago Salmon will play ball at the Historic Methodist Campground of Des Plaines, Saturday, August 12, at 1:00 PM. This year's match will be against the Lemont Quarrymen. We are hoping to do better than the three runs we tallied in our 11 to 3 loss to the Quarrymen last Saturday. We play on Grove 3.

The match will be played amongst the oak trees at the Des Plaines Methodist Campground. (historicmethodistcampground.org) or (Historic Methodist CampGround of Des Plaines on Facebook)

The campgrounds are thankfully free of the over three to five feet of water that covered much of it after the heavy rainfall we had several weeks ago. I toured the grounds last week. With a little more light rain the "mustiness" in the air should be under control.

The campgrounds organization is looking for volunteers to help with the cleanup, which at this point is more about the damage from the flooding inside the buildings as opposed to outside them.

The address is: Des Plaines Methodist Camp Ground, 1250 Campground Rd., Des Plaines, 60016 or the address given for their swimming pool entrance on Algonquin Road: Swimming Pool 1900 E Algonquin Rd Des Plaines, IL 60016. That entrance is on Algonquin Road. East of River Road (Route 45).
